PupVoice exists to give dogs a louder voice. That only works if readers can trust every word. This page is the standard we hold ourselves to and the standard you should hold us to. If you ever think we’ve fallen short, tell us.
1. What PupVoice publishes
- Dog news: Recalls, new laws, shelter emergencies, adoption drives, and the stories shaping dogs’ lives
- Advocacy: We openly campaign for adoption, rescue, and stronger protections for dogs
- True rescue stories: Long-form accounts of real dogs, verified before publishing
- Practical guides: Help for the hard parts of living with a dog
Everything on the site, whatever its format, is held to the standards below.
2. Accuracy and verification
We publish only what we can stand behind. Before a story runs, we check it against original sources: the rescue organizations involved, existing news reporting, public records, and (where possible) the people who were there.
- If a fact can’t be confirmed, it either comes out of the story or is clearly attributed to its source.
- We never invent names, quotes, dialogue, or details to make a story more emotional. The truth is dramatic enough.
- Dates, places, and outcomes, including whether a dog has been adopted, are checked at the time of publishing, and updated as things change (section 7).
3. Reader-submitted stories
Some of our best stories come from readers through our contact page. Before one is published, we:
- Confirm the story with the person who lived it
- Verify key facts with the rescue or shelter, where one is involved
- Get the submitter’s permission to use names and photos
- Let them know when the story goes live
We edit submissions for length and clarity, never to change what happened.
4. News, advocacy, and opinion
PupVoice is not neutral about dog welfare, and we don’t pretend to be. We are openly for adoption over buying, for rescues and shelters, and for laws that protect dogs.
That stance never bends the facts. Our reporting is fact-checked regardless of whether the facts help our cause, and when a piece is advocacy or opinion, it is written so you can tell it is our stance; not presented as a neutral news claim.
5. AI assistance and human review
Like many modern publications, we use technology to help draft and polish our work. Two rules make that trustworthy:
- Facts never come from AI. Every factual claim is verified through the sourcing process in section 2, not generated.
- Nothing publishes without human review. A person checks, edits, and approves every piece before it goes live, and is accountable for it.
We never use AI to fabricate photos of real dogs or real events on our website. Illustrations are always presented as illustrations (section 12).
6. Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it quickly and visibly.
- Spotted an error? Email hello@pupvoice.com or use the contact page with the story link. We review correction requests within two business days.
- Errors of fact are corrected in the story itself, with a note saying what changed and when.
- Minor typos and formatting slips are fixed without a note.
- We do not quietly delete stories to hide mistakes.
7. Story updates and removals
Dogs’ lives keep moving after publish day. When a rescue or reader tells us a dog featured on PupVoice has been adopted, or anything else important has changed, we update the story, happy endings especially.
People featured in a story can ask us to update it or to remove their personal details. How we handle personal information is covered in our privacy policy.
8. Sensitive content
Rescue journalism sometimes means hard images and hard facts. Our rules:
- We show only what serves the story. Suffering is never the point; what you can do about it is.
- Graphic content comes with a warning before you see it.
- We do not publish gore or cruelty content for shock value or clicks ever.
9. Privacy of people in our stories
- Names and photos of private individuals appear only with their permission.
- Children appear only with a parent or guardian’s permission.
- We blur or omit identifying details on request.
- Rescue staff are quoted with their organization’s knowledge.
10. Independence and advertising
PupVoice is free to read because it is supported by advertising. The wall between advertising and editorial is absolute:
- Advertisers never see stories before publication and never influence what we cover.
- We do not accept guest posts, paid articles, or sponsored content disguised as stories.
- If we ever run sponsored content, it will be labeled so clearly you could not miss it.
How advertising works on this site is explained in our advertising disclosure.
11. Product reviews
When we recommend dog products or services, our picks are chosen independently, based on research and experience with dogs, never because someone paid for placement. If a link earns us a commission, we disclose it on the page. No manufacturer sees a review before it is published.
12. Sources, credit, and photos
- We link to original reporting when our stories build on someone else’s work.
- Photographers, rescues, and submitters are credited for their images, which we use with permission.
- Illustrations and stock images are presented as such, never passed off as documentary photos of the story being told.
13. Contact the editors
Corrections, complaints about our standards, or feedback on how we work: email hello@pupvoice.com with the subject “Editorial”, or use our contact page. A real person reads every message.
This policy is reviewed regularly, and this page always holds the current version.
